Sub: Revision of foreign postage rates of letter post items with effect from
1.9.2008.
Sir,
In supersession of previous orders contained in Notification No. GSR
No. 643 (E) dated 23rd October 1991, GSR No. 259(E) dated 5th March 1993
and GSR No. 46(E) dated 22nd January 1999 and office orders 1-4/89-R dated
24.10.1991 and 1-15/97-Rates dated 25.1.1999, the Central Government has
decided to revise the tariff for certain foreign postage items with effect from
1st September 2008. The details of revised tariffs are given in the ‘annexure’
to this letter.
2. Suitable instructions may be issued to all subordinate units under
your administrative control to note the above changes in foreign postal tariff
and to ensure that these are implemented from 1st September 2008.
3. Adequate publicity through Newspapers etc. may also be made.
4. A copy of the Gazette Notification amending the relevant rules in
Indian Post Office Rules, 1933, will be sent in due course.
5. It may be noted that for postal articles cleared on 1.9.2008 from letter
boxes in the first clearance existing rate of postage will apply.
6. Hindi version of the order will be sent shortly. Kindly acknowledge
the receipt of this letter.
